Das ist sie, die gesamte Familie meine Gasteltern die hier inWashington State lebt. (Nicht vergessen, dass der Großteil in Illinois, in der Nähe von Chicago lebt 😉 ) Insgesamt waren wir 28 Personen am 1. Weihnachtstag, denn hier in Amerika gibt es die Geschenke nicht am Heiligabend wie bei uns daheim… Dennoch sind Pamela, Dennis und ich am Heiligabend zu einem Lichtergottesdienst in die Kirche gegangen. Ausnahmsweise in einer anderen Kirche als der wo wir normalerweise hingehen. Der Gottesdienst war wunderschön, sehr ähnlich zu dem den ich aus meiner Heimat kenne. Jeder bekam eine Kerze und zum Abschluss haben wir einen riesigen Kreis gebildet, die Kerzen angezündet und gemeinsam das Lied „Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht“ (natürlich die englische Version) gesungen. Ich muss zugeben, dass sich da doch die ein oder andere kleine Träne aus meinen Augenwinkeln gelöst hat 😉
Am nächsten Morgen kamen wieder Scott, Cheryl und die Kids zum Frühstück zu uns, und natürlich um Geschenke auszupacken, denn die Bescherung fand in diesem Jahr bei uns statt, da im neuen Haus von Scott und Cheryl aufgrund von andauernden Bauarbeiten leider kein Platz für einen Weihnachtsbaum war.
Die Kinderaugen und auch von uns allen anderen strahlten und alle waren zufrieden mit ihren Geschenken. Anschließend ging es weiter nach Lynden zum Rest der Familie, wo wir wieder ein gemeinsames Dinner-Buffet veranstaltet haben und wo es noch einmal für jeden ein paar kleine Geschenke gab:
Ganz nahc der Tradition des „Stockings“ (Strumpf) brachte jedes Familienmitglied seinen Stocking mit und hängte ihn im Haus auf. Alle Familien hatten kleine Geschenke für alle gemacht und damit wurden diese nun gefüllt. Auch ich hatte einen besonders tollen bekommen. Pamela hat sich die Mühe gemacht und mir extra selbst einen genäht, riesen groß und in der Form einen High-Heels 😉 Soooo toll!
Am späten Nachmittag haben wir uns alle gemeinsam, mit unseren gefüllten Stockings in der Hand ins Wohnzimmer gesetzt und dann durften die Kleinen ihre zuerst öffnen. Die Reihenfolge ging nach Alter und um es später etwas zu verkürzen, haben die Paare nachher ihre Stockings gemeinsam geöffnet. Nach einer guten Stunde hatte dann auch jeder all seine Geschenke geöffnet 😉
Anschließend haben wir alle gemeinsam noch einen Weihnachtsfilm geschaut, bevor es auch für uns wieder nach Hause ging.
Soweit hatte ich ein wundervolles Weihnachtsfest im Kreise meiner Gastfamilie, habe kaum etwas vermisst, nur als ich am nächsten Morgen um 10Uhr fertig aus der Dusche kam, und ich feststellen musste, dass bereits unser Weihnachtsbaum komplett abgeschmückt und draußen verschwunden war und auch die Weihnachtslichterdeko draußen abgenommen war, hat mir das doch einen mehr oder weniger großen Kulturschock versetzt 😉 Ich mein, es war doch erst der 2. Weihnachtstag?! Naja, wie heißt das Motto unseres Stipendiums so schön? Not good, not bad, just DIFFERENT! 🙂
